(KMZA)-- Nemaha County, Ks inmates will soon receive a least one hot meal a day.
Sheriff Rich Vernon, Jail Administrator Lori Yunghans and County Senior Services Director Diane Yunghans came before the County Commission Monday to discuss the possibility of having the Meals-on-Wheels Program provide one meal per day for inmates.
Vernon said the cost would be comparable to the frozen TV dinners currently served.
Diane Yunghans said she has already been given permission from the Northeast Kansas Area Agency on Aging to provide the meal. She said the service would be feasible as long as the meals were picked up and delivered to the jail by someone from the sheriff’s department.
Commissioners said they thought it was a good idea, and advised the group to move forward with the plan.
In other business, the commission set a public hearing to consider a 10-year tax abatement for a recent expansion at CJ Foods in Bern. The hearing will be held Monday, December 30th at 10 in the morning in the county commission chambers.
