(KNZA)--A Mayetta man convicted in the shooting death of another Mayetta man in January has been sentenced to 13 years in prison.
Jackson County Attorney Shawna Miller says Lloyd Wabaunsee was sentenced Friday morning in Jackson County District Court on a charge of second-degree murder. After serving his prison sentence, he will be placed on 36-months supervised release.
Wabaunsee pleaded no contest to the charge in September after the prosecution agreed to recommend the sentence. Because of his criminal history, Wabaunsee normally would have faced a sentence ranging from 18 1/2 to 20 1/2 years.
He was among five people charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Kevin Stanley on January 10th at Stanley’s Mayetta residence, and the last defendant to be sentenced.
Wabaunsee was found hiding in the trunk of a car in a grocery store parking lot n Urbandale, Iowa about a week after the shooting.
