(KTNC) - For the second year in a row, the Falls City School District has received a $25,000 America’s Farmers Grow Rural America grant from the Monsanto Fund.
District Technology and Curriculum Coordinator Judi Carter wrote the grant and says they were notified of the award at the end of August.
The school is working with the UNL Extension Office to add hands-on agricultural education projects to the curriculum. Extension Educator Jami Ankrom will provide the agricultural education while teachers will provide the math and science education.
Ankrom says they’ve planned projects for North School students.
Ankrom was scheduled to meet with South School teachers this week to plan projects for third, fourth, and fifth grade students.
Falls City is one of two schools in Nebraska to receive a $25,000 grant from the Monsanto Fund.
More than 100 farmers and landowners nominated the Falls City School District for the grant, which Carter said played a large part in the district receiving the award. A check presentation is planned before the October 4 football game.
Falls City High School received a $25,000 grant last year that was used to provide iPads and GPS’s in math classrooms at the High School.
