Brown Co Conservation District to Hold Speech Contest
09/06/2013

The Brown County Conservation District invites all high school students in Brown County to enter into the 2013 Kansas Association of Conservation District Speech Contest.

The topic for this year is “Soil to Spoon”.  The topic highlights the importance of understanding how the food on your spoon starts with the soil around them and the steps it takes to get their food to their table. The contest will be held October 16 at 6:30 p.m. at the USDA Service Center in Hiawatha.

The participants will be competing for not only the opportunity to represent Brown County in the area contest but first and second places will be awarded $100 and $50 Visa Gift cards. The District winner will compete at the area contest for cash prizes in the amount of $250 for the first place winner, $150 cash for second place and third place will receive $100. The area winner will compete in the State contest for scholarships which can be used at an accredited school or training institution of the winner’s choice. First place will be awarded a $500 scholarship and second place will receive a $250 scholarship.

As an incentive for teachers to get their students to participate a $25 gift card will be presented to the sponsoring teacher of the 1st place district winner.
