Soil Health/Cover Crop Workshop

Nemaha County Conservation District will sponsor a Soil Health/Cover Crop Workshop that is planned for Thursday September 19, 2013 at the Hammes Seed Inc Building at 1183 120th Rd in Seneca, KS.

The workshop begins at 9 a.m. with a welcome, introductions and logistics followed with a Presentation and demonstration by Kris Ethridge of the Natural Resources Conservation Service Area office in Manhattan. Kris will speak on the benefits of using cover crops as well as NRCS programs related to cover crops, and cover crop selection. There will also be a presentation of Cover Crops & Wildlife by Holly Wilkens, Pheasants Forever Wildlife Biologist. USDA Risk Management Agency of Topeka will be speaking about Cover Crops and the Effects of Crop Insurance. A selection of local producers who have incorporated Cover Crops into their operations will be available for a producer panel discussion.

Lunch will be served at 11:45PM, catered by Home Cookin’ of Seneca.

After Lunch, a cover crop field tour and demonstration will be at a field just adjacent to the Hammes Seed Building, where there will be a demonstration on cover crops as well as the two USDA approved tools used for their programs.
