(KLZA) -- Falls City Council members voted 7-0 with Councilman Don Ferguson absent to give final approval to increases in rates, fees and other charges in the electrical, gas, sewer and water departments when they met Tuesday evening.
City Administrator Gary Jorn noted that a petition had been received seeking the rate increase be reviewed prior to the final vote. The petition had 92 signatures representing approximately three percent of the city utility customers.
The rate increases are expected to be in the neighborhood of $10 per month for a household.
The Council also approved a request to have the office employees in the Administrative and Utility Office work a 40 hour week beginning October 1st instead of the 35 hour week currently being worked. Jorn explained there are now two people working in the utility office instead of three and that one from the Administrative office transferred to the Utility Office leaving that office with one less person.
The change will be reviewed after six months.
Approval was given for a Homecoming bon fire for Sacred Heart School on September 25th. An ordinance to vacate Appleoff Avenue between 14th & 16th Street and 16th Street from the west side of Appleoff Street to the west side of Appleoff Avenue was approved on first reading.
An animal permit application from Amy Goltz to keep three horses at 3113 McLean Street was approved and the Council will have the City Attorney review an ordinance concerning parking construction trailers on city streets. The Council wants to allow this if the Police Department is notified and the trailers are marked so they can be easily viewed by motorists.
