(KAIR)--Atchison residents who work to save the planet by recycling, may have noticed that the county recycling facility has a sign on its door announcing that it will be closing Friday. County Commissioner Jeff Schuele says this is all part of the process as the county moves toward a new recycling process, which includes a single stream recycling container at the current recycling station, and that should be in place by tomorrow. The most significant improvement this new process has over the older one is that residents will not have to sort their recyclable goods. Everything will go into one container.
There current facility will not go unoccupied for long. Schuele says that the county does have plans for the building. Right now, they are evaluating it long term as an EMS facility. The south side of that building currently houses county first responders, so this would be an ideal use for the building.
This new method of recycling should make the process much easier, and much more streamlined.
