( Nebraska News Network / KLZA ) -- A spokesman for the Postal Service says no legislation is needed to prevent the closings of rural post offices, because the service has backed off of that proposal.
US Postal Service regional spokesman Brian Sperry says based on customer use the hours of service at your local post office could be affected.
Sperry says the Postal Service has been working with the customers of 111 rural Nebraska post offices to cut costs to keep them open...even with reduced hours, In other words, offices seeing fewer people will be open for fewer hours each day.
Sperry says USPS has a five-year strategy to save 20 Billion dollars.
The Postal Service had proposed closing 37-Hundred post offices throughout the country. It backed off the proposal under public protest.
