There are three schools in Atchison that are receiving some much needed renovations. When USD 409 adopted their budget for 2013-2014 during their meeting Monday night, one of the factors they considered was the ongoing renovations at several schools in the district.
The renovation of the Roosevelt building on the middle school campus is projected to be complete by the end of the year, as is the project of turning a former military barracks behind the high school into a brick and mortar building which will house eight classrooms.
The high school also had some renovations in the 1976 building including some improvements to the music room, the library, as well as two classrooms and a storage area. Superintendent Susan Myers says that all of these renovations were made possible by a bond issue that was passed by Atchison residents last year.
