(KLZA) A 90 minute public hearing concerning the proposed West Waterline project in Auburn was held at the start of the Monday night City Council meeting.
In June, the Council tabled action on the project proposed by the Auburn Board of Public Works that will carry a price tag estimated a $500 - $600,000. Mayor Scott Kudrna says there were people in favor of, and against the project that spoke during the hearing. ( play audio :50 seconds )
BPW General Manager Dave Hunter estimated that if the main water line in Auburn were to be damaged 40 – 50 percent of the community could be without water. He says this project would serve as a backup for much of that area. Since the Community Redevelopment Committee proposed the project in 2011 costs have escalated. ( play audio :33 seconds )
Mayor Kudrna talked about the funding proposal for the project. ( play audio :43 seconds )
Following the public hearing, it was time for a Council decision on whether or not to move forward. ( play audio :18 seconds )
The Board of Public Works could include the water line project in it’s next budget, but that budget will need to be approved by the City Council.
