Nemaha Co Commission Receives Additional 2014 Budget Requests
( KMZA )-The Nemaha County Commission Monday received several additional 2014 budget requests.
Representatives from the Nemaha County Historical Society met with the commission to request an increase in funding from the county for next year.
The group said they are currently struggling to pay for their utilities and staff. They said in order to make one of their part-time employees full-time and keep the museum open everyday they would need at least $10,000 from the county.
Currently, the county appropriates $1,000 each year to both the Nemaha County Historical Society and the Albany Historical Society.
Nemaha County Training Center Director Alice Lackey met with the commission to request an increase in funding for 2014.
Lackey said her board would like to provide their employees with health insurance in order to improve employee retention. She said the board estimated it would cost an additional $134,000 per year to provide employee health insurance.
Currently, the county appropriates $80,000 each year to the organization.
And Nemaha County Register of Deeds Roxanne Holthaus requested $106,500 from the county for 2014, which represents an more than 32-hundred dollar increase over what was appropriated this year.
The commission will consider the budget requests when preparing the 2014 budget.
