(KTNC) - Officials from the Nebraska Public Power District will meet with the Nuclear Regulatory Commission later this month to discuss NPPD’s actions to improve human performance and problem solving issues at the Cooper nuclear station at Brownville.
The meeting will be held Wednesday, June 26th, at the NRC’s Regional office in Arlington, Texas, and is open for public observation.
NPPD officials will brief NRC staff on recent efforts to address human performance and problem solving deficiencies detailed in the NRC’s annual assessment letter, dated March 4th.
The problems were first identified last year. The NRC says that Cooper's overall performance is acceptable, but regulators want to know what NPPD has done to improve the way problems are analyzed and addressed.
NPPD spokesman Mark Becker says the plant's managers are working to correct this issue, but he emphasized that Cooper continues to operate safely.
Observers can ask questions of the NRC staff during the meeting, and the public can listen to the hearing via telephone.
