Renovation Plan Moves Forward for Heritage Conference Center
06/05/2013

(KAIR) -- Nearly two million dollars in renovations to Atchison's Heritage Conference Center get the green light.

The Atchison City Commission voted 3-2 Monday evening to put the project out to bid. Commissioners Jack Bower and Larry Purcell voted no.

City Manager Trey Cocking says a large portion of the renovations include room controlled HVAC, but other smaller renovations are possible. (Play Audio)

The board also passed a bond financing resolution to help fund the project and other projects by the same vote.

The renovations will cause a hardship on the Conference Center as the work is expected to take place from August 1st through December 31st.  The city has put a freeze on any new bookings during that time.

Conference Center Representative Bill Murphy says the center is expected to lose 70 to 80 thousand dollars in sales during that period.
