(MSC)--Although it's spring, winter weather this morning, including sleet and snow, leads to weather related crashes, and slide-offs, across the region.
A late morning Nemaha County traffic crash led both to the closing of a portion of highway, as well as the early dismissal of a school.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says the crash caused power lines to fall into the roadway.
Because of that, the affected stretch of K-9 Highway was closed from the junction with U.S. Highway 75 to the City of Wetmore, but was reopened by 12:20 this afternoon.
The downed lines also forced the 12:30 early dismissal of the Wetmore Schools.
Among other weather related incidents are two on Atchison County roadways.
That includes a head on collission between an SUV and a semi-truck, on U.S. Highway 73, near the Shannon Industrial Park.
Atchison County Sheriff Jack Laurie says it happened around 9:00(Play Audio)
Undersheriff Joe Butner says the eastbound Ford Explorer was totaled, but due to the fact that both drivers were traveling at low rates of speed allowed both to escape without injury(Play Audio)
Laurie says a second crash happened near Cummings, near the intersection of U.S. Highway 59 and 230th Road. It was there that a vehicle slid off the road, suffering minor damage.
