(KAIR) -- A student from Maur Hill Mount Academy in Atchison has been awarded a 500 dollar scholarship in foreign language from Missouri Western in Saint Joseph.
Austen Geenes was only one of seven students to get the scholarship last week during the college’s annual Foreign Language Day.
Scholarships of 500 and one thousand dollars were handed out to the winners.
Every year, the foreign language department invites high school students who are studying Chinese, French or Spanish to compete in a variety of language-related activities.
This year, 215 high school students attended the competition which consisted of a poetry recitation, a quiz bowl, impromptu skits and video commercials.
