(KLZA) Falls City resident Kathy Bartek has been selected as the recipient for the University of Nebraska at Lincoln East Campus Bull Fry Event to be held Saturday, April 13th.
Bull Fry is one of the largest philanthropic events held by a UNL organization. The event raises from $5,000 to $10,000 for a family in need. Residents of Burr, Fedde and Love Halls on East Campus submit candidates and then vote on which one they wish to be the recipient. This year, Kathy Bartek of Falls City was selected.
Bartek has served for 24 years on the Falls City Board of Education and was diagnosed with ALS, known as Lou Gehrig’s Disease.
The Bull Fry is held form 4 – 8 p-m Saturday. The meal costs $8 and there will also be games held for an $8 fee. In addition, there will be a Bull-A-Thon form 7 – 11p-m Friday at the East Campus Union.
The Bull Fry is a day of fun and food. The dinner generally consists of hamburgers, hot dogs, bull fries, chips, potato salad, cookies and drinks. There will be giant inflatable games, a rock wall, mechanical bull and dunk tank. All proceeds to towards the family. There will also be t-shirts for sale.
The Bull-A-Thon is held Friday before the Bull fry at the East Campus bowling alley. Teams of four compete for prizes donated or bought with donations. Again all proceeds go to the family.
The events will take place at the green space between Burr and Fedde. Burr Hall is located on East Campus at 1701 North 35th Street in Lincoln.
