(KTNC) - The Nebraska State Speech Contest was held last week in Kearney.
Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer placed second in the final Class C2 team sweepstakes, with 94 points. Freeman was first with 104 points.
For HTRS, Taylor Schafer placed second in Poetry and third in Serious Interpretation; Elliot Gonnella placed third in Extemporaneous Speaking; Joel Svoboda was second in Humorous Interpretation; and Carrissa Carlin placed fourth in Informative Speaking.
Falls City Sacred Heart totaled 46 points in the Class D2 team sweepstakes, which was good for 9th place. That included a second place individual finish for Emma Schock in Humorous Interpretation. Fourth place finishes went to Chaz Dunn and Colin Niemeier in Duet Acting and Janey Malcolm in Serious Interpretation.
Johnson-Brock had the only individual state champion among area schools. Amzie Dunekacke was first in Persuasive Speaking in Class D1. Also for Johnson-Brock, Julia Oestmann was third in Informative Speaking. Johnson-Brock totaled 36 points in Class D1 team sweepstakes, which was good for 7th place.
