Most of Missouri now out of Drought
(KTNC) - The U.S. Drought Monitor no longer shows Missouri mired in a drought.
The northwest corner of the state remains dry, but state climatologist Pat Guinan says the last six weeks have changed Missouri’s situation. (play audio :24)
While the substantial rains and heavy snows in the last six weeks have lifted most of Missouri out of drought status, Guinan says the precipitation has missed one corner of the state. (play audio :27)
In many winters, water from rain and heavy snowstorms can’t soak into the frozen ground, but Guinan says that’s not the case this year. (play audio :27)
Not only have many parts of Missouri received substantial precipitation, Guinan says some parts of the state that were dry all of last year are seeing flooding this year.
