Falls City Council Seeking Bids on Street Improvement Projects

 (KLZA) Falls City Council members voted unanimously Monday night to approve a resolution allowing the Main Street Committee to apply for a $30,000 Community Development Block Grant for the continued Downtown Revitalization Project.  If approved the grant would require a $9,500 match from the City.

In other action Council members approved City Administrator Gary Jorn seeking bids for repairing 18th Street between Harlan and Lane and 16th Street between Chase and Crook.  Jorn said he estimates the projects to come with a price tag of 75 – 100 thousand dollars.  ( play audio :30 seconds ) 

The Council voted 7-1 to give favorable comment to a class I liquor license application for Katrina Miller doing business as “Just One More Bar & Grill”  at 623 Harlan Street, formerly knows as Subbys Southside Inn. Miller explained her plans to the Council.  ( play audio :25 seconds ) 

Council member Judy Murphy cast the lone nay vote.

Approval was also given to a request from the Employee Advisory Committee for the City to fund an Employee Appreciation catered dinner on April 13th at a cost estimated at $1,100.

Dan Duren with Benefit Management met with the Council to provide a review of health insurance costs for fiscal year 2012-13 to this point.  Duren says the City has saved approximately $36,000 over the estimated costs if they had renewed with Blue Cross Blue Shield under their former plan.

Mayor Tim Hersh also congratulated the Sacred Heart girls and boys basketball teams on their third place finishes at the state tournaments this year.
