(KAIR) -- A portion of one of Atchison’s historic brick streets is set to be replaced.
On March 13th, city crews are scheduled to begin replacing the brick surfacing on North 4th Street.
Crews will begin removal and replacement from Santa Fe to Parallel Streets, and then continue from Mound to Division.
The construction work is estimated to last through April.
Bottorff Construction of Atchison is the contractor of the 86 thousand dollar project which was outlined in the city’s capital outlay plan.
Traffic will be carried through construction, with the use of signage, flaggers, and possible pilot vehicles.
Local access to businesses will be maintained at all practical/possible times during construction.
Parking will be limited in the construction area and the city asks that drivers always proceed with caution through construction work zones.
The street originally had its bricks laid by William Bouler.
Bouler, a deaf double amputee, was noted in the January 7, 1933 edition of “Ripley’s Believe It or Not” for having laid 46,000 bricks in one 8-hour day.
