(MSC News)--Tax season means a prime time for scammers attempting to gain personal financial information by falsely representiving themselves as members of the IRS(Play Audio)
That's IRS spokesman Michael Devine who says unexpected emails, phone calls or faxes claiming to be from the IRS should be viewed as a scam attempt(Play Audio)
Devine says if there's any question about the validity of an attempted IRS contact, the agency should be contacted directly at 800-829-1040.
All fake emails should be forwarded to the IRS for their review.
A suspicious email claiming to be from the IRS should be forwarded to phishing@irs.gov.
