Nebraska Lt. Governor Resigns
(KTNC) - Nebraska Lieutenant Governor Rick Sheehy has resigned.
Governor Dave Heineman announced Sheehy’s resignation, which is effective immediately, at a hastily called news conference on Saturday morning.
Heineman said the resignation followed disclosures made in a public records request, but declined to discuss what those disclosures were. (play audio :26)
Sheehy’s resignation followed inquiries into his use of a state-issued cell phone. An investigation by the Omaha World-Herald found that Sheehy made about two thousand late night telephone calls to women other than his wife.
Governor Heineman will appoint someone to replace Sheehy as Lieutenant Governor. (play audio :21)
Sheehy, a Republican, had been considered the front-runner in the 2014 race for governor and had been endorsed by Heineman. Sheehy has been traveling throughout the state, making speeches and holding public events.
