Pawnee City Council Approves Recycling Contract

A Lincoln company will provide recycling services in Pawnee City. The City Council approved a one-year contract with Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska during Monday’s meeting.
Under the terms of the contract, Recycling Enterprises will place four dumpsters where the current recycling trailer is located. The company will collect materials on a monthly basis, with a charge of $150 per collection.
Recyclable materials do not need to be sorted in the new dumpsters, and the company will take more items than what is currently accepted – including office paper and glass. Newspapers, magazines, cardboard, and numbers one-through-seven plastics will also be accepted.
Pawnee City expects to save money with the new contract. The city is currently spending approximately $450 a month to haul the recycling trailer to another facility in Lincoln.
Recycling Enterprises of Nebraska also has dumpsters in Tecumseh and Auburn.
In other business Monday, the Pawnee City Council approved the final reading of six ordinances proposed by the League of Nebraska Municipalities. City Attorney Betsy Ferebee had recommended the ordinances be approved.
And the council approved a motion to have City Clerk Tammy Stephens and Shop Foreman Clint Johnson attend a class in Lincoln in March.
