(KNZA)--The Hiawatha Foundation For Economic Development held their annual meeting, with the renovated Klinefelter Barn, on the Highland Community College Klinefelter Farm, in rural Hiawatha, playing host to the meeting and meal.
College President David Reist was the featured speaker for the evening's program.
He said, seeing the barn used for a meeting focused on economic development realizes the original vision for the facility:
The gathering began with a reception, and wine tasting, also courtesy of the college.
The wine was made in Kansas, and was served to highlight the fact that Highland offers a course focused on the science of winemaking:
Following the reception, the meeting began, starting with recognition for Ken Babcock.
A moment of silence was held for the Hiawatha businessman, and longtime HFED supporter, killed earlier this month in a Nebraska plane crash.
Recognition was also provided to local officials in attendance, as well as to HFED's 16 board members.
Business, including the election, and re-election of board members, was held during the evening, which concluded, in part, with HFED Executive Director Don Nigus outlining the successes, and the future goals, of the organization.
