As president of the Kansas Corn Growers Association, Timmons offers a Kansas perspective among farmer leaders from many corn states gathered to discuss state and national priorities for 2014. This conference is a precursor to the Corn Congress, which will be held at the 2013 Commodity Classic Feb. 28 - March 2 in Kissimmee, Fla. The National Corn Growers Association's (NCGA) Policy and Priority Conference was held Jan. 16-17 in St. Louis. Corn leaders discussed NCGA's policies on topics including ethanol, public policy and biotechnology. Timmons, who farms near Fredonia, says the meeting offered an opportunity to hear from other state leaders regarding concerns, in an effort to build consensus and renew discussions on the future of the national corn industry. This year, as part of a collaborative initiative with the U.S. Grains Council (USGC), the Priority and Policy Conference also includes leadership from that organization for a discussion of USGC priorities and trade issues. During the national Corn Congress Kansas will be represented by six grower delegates: Timmons; Charles Foltz, Garnett; Roger Pine, Lawrence; Brian Baalman, Menlo; Ken McCauley, White Cloud and Pat Ross, Lawrence. Alternates are Terry Vinduska, Marion; Tom Tibbits, Minneapolis, and Mike Brzon, Courtland.
