(KAIR) -- Atchison City Commissioners Tuesday afternoon will look to appoint their representation to the new solid waste committee.
This is the committee that will be formed with representation over the entire county per state statute on solid waste matters.
People up for appointment for Atchison include City Commissioner Jack Bower, Planning Commission Chair Derek Franklin, City Manager Trey Cocking, Finance Director and Assistant City Manager Becky Swain and Public Works Director Gary Heer.
Commissioners will also look to pass the voice over internet phone system in city offices, replacing traditional phone lines.
Swain says this is a money-saving joint project between the city and Atchison County.

In other items, Commissioners will look to establish an accessibility advisory board which was a condition a recent lawsuit settlement between the city and a disabled former citizen.
They will also look to approve the low bid of just over 788 thousand dollars from Herzog to mill and overlay U-S 59 in Atchison from the foot of the Amelia Earhart Bridge to west city limits.
The meeting will be at 4:30 at City Hall.
