Atchison Active in Health & Wellness Initiatives
01/18/2013

(KAIR) -- When the news came out a few years ago that Atchison County ranked last in the state in health behaviors in a national survey, efforts began to turn that trend around.

Among that included the creation a committee by the Atchison Hospital “Live Well, Live Atchison.”

The county’s ranking has gone upward in subsequent years and more people are making a commitment to changing their lifestyle, whether its eating or in exercise.

This month, the City of Atchison made a commitment to apply for a grant for the possible expansion of trails in the community and in the county.

Several programs are also seeing a greater amount of participation.

One is the “Body Transformation Challenge” by Body & Soul Nutrition.

That’s Brooke Johnson, Body & Soul’s owner.

This program has 115 people signed up for it, which includes a cross-section of people ages 20 through their 60s.

Johnson says the challenge features several different aspects.

She says of those people many made the commitment well before any New Year’s Resolutions were even considered.

One of those people is Sarah Hill.

She’s accomplished and plans to accomplish many more goals.

Hill says she plans to expand the challenge by opening a store in Doniphan County by Highland Community College.
