Humboldt City Council Continues Discussion on Code Enforcer

(KTNC) - The Humboldt City Council appears set to contract with the Southeast Nebraska Development District for someone to enforce city ordinances pertaining to nuisance properties.
The council met with SENDD representative Emily Bausch again Tuesday night regarding the Code Enforcer program. The council took no action Tuesday, but they did ask Bausch to return to the February 5th Council meeting, along with City Attorney Vic Faesser, when the council is expected to finalize a contract with SENDD for a City Code Enforcer.
In other business Tuesday, the council approved a motion to have the City of Humboldt remove two dead trees from the property at 829 4th Street. The city had sent the property owner a certified letter notifying him that the trees had been declared a nuisance and need to be removed, but the property owner never picked up the letter.
The council action will have the city proceed to remove the trees then put a lien against the property.
The Humboldt Council also approved a change order to last year’s Clearwell and Blending Station Improvement project. The change involves the engineer’s request to expand storage at the site. There will be no change to the project cost as a result of the change order.
And representative from Nebraska Machinery presented two proposals to the Humboldt Council. One proposal is to repair the city’s loader, and the other is to for a new loader to replace the current one. The council took no action on either proposal.
