Amelia Bridge Scraps to be Distributed in County
01/08/2013

(KAIR) -- Atchison County Commissioners on Monday learned where the deconstructed parts of the Amelia Earhart Bridge will be distributed.

Dennis Foster with Northeast Kansas Environmental Services says concrete will initially be distributed to fill a gulley near 75 hundred Rollins Road, as well as to the Dennis Dame property.

Commissioners asked Foster to be in contact with Road and Bridge Supervisor Matt Dorssom for potential county use for some of the remaining concrete.

Commissioners also met with Foster about examining properties in the county that may be deemed a nuisance.

Commissioner Jeff Schuele says that prosecution for those properties could be forthcoming under the ordinance created by Commissioners last year.

Commissioners also finalized their agenda for the first annual Countywide Summit, planned for Thursday evening at 6:30 at the Blue Building in Effingham.

Schuele says representation from all cities will be in attendance, as well as State Representatives Jerry Henry and Randy Garber.

Key items discussed will be how state legislative policy will affect the local level, the possible formation of a solid waste committee and how to manage the countywide one percent sales tax.

While the meeting is open to the public, no public comment will be heard.
