( KMZA )-The new year means a higher cost to dispose of trash at the Nemaha County ( Ks ) landfill.
County commissioners Monday approved increasing the rates for the county transfer station to $50 a ton for in-county trash disposal and to $60 a ton for out-of-county. The rates had previously been set at $46 a ton for both in county and out-of-county trash.
The commission also approved increasing the rates for the construction and demolition pit to $35 a ton for in county and $45 a ton for out-of-county. The rates had previously set at $30 a ton for both in-county and out-of-county disposal.
The new rates took effect January 1st.
Solid Waste Supervisor Dennis Ronnebaum proposed the rate increase to cover the costs of running the landfill.
Following a hearing drawing no public comment the commission approved amendments to the 2012 budget.
The noxious weed, employee benefits, alcohol control and solid waste funds were amended to allow for $97,500 in additional expenditures.
The county had the cash and it will not affect the mill levy.
And commissioners accepted a bid submitted by Sheriff Rich Vernon from Zones for the purchase of two new servers for the sheriff’s department at a total cost of $38,812.
