Atchison Police Report Quiet New Year’s Holiday
01/02/2013

(KAIR) -- For the most part, citizens of Atchison brought in the New Year’s holiday responsibly.

Atchison Police Chief Mike Wilson says officers only responded to a few minor incidents with zero arrests for driving under the influence.

One of the minor incidents included a non-injury hit and run accident where Alicia Williams struck a fire hydrant at the intersection of Third and Kansas Monday evening.

Her vehicle was later discovered at the 600 block of Kansas where she was cited for leaving the scene of an accident, expired tags and no proof on insurance.

Wilson says the incident may have been weather related.

Police also responded to a couple of phone calls of people shooting fireworks for the holiday, however, culprits were not found and no citations were issued.

Atchison County Sheriff John Calhoon also reports no major activity.
