Senior Housing Planned In Holton

(KNZA)--The stage is set for a new senior housing development in the City of Holton.

City Commissioners this week voted to rezone 17 lots, on the 24 lot subdivision at the southwest corner of First Street and Pennsylvania Avenue, from single family residential to multiple family residential.

That vote, stemming from a Planning Commission recommendation, clears the way for the future opening of thirty-six housing units for residents 55 and older.

City Manager Bret Bauer says plan is developed by Homestead Affordable Housing, based on an idea they had proposed, and gained approval on, in the past(Play Audio)

Only the number of housing units has changed since the original proposal, with Homestead considering the placement of duplexes and four-plexes on the property, known as Oak Brook Subdivision Number 4.

The next step in the process will be decisions related to the issuance of bonds for construction, as well as sales tax abatement on construction while the bonds are active.

When that is finalized, construction could begin by September.

Construction would be assisted by a 400-thousand-dollar grant received by Homestead.
