Man Suspected in Officer Shootings Killed
TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) - Police don't yet have a motive in the killings of two Topeka police officers.
50-year-old David Gogian and 29-year-old Jeff Atherly were fatally shot Sunday night while investigating a report of a possible drug deal outside a grocery store.
Officers killed the suspect, identified as 22-year-old David Tiscareno of Topeka, this morning after a standoff at a home about a mile from the store.
Authorities say officers tried to negotiate with Tiscareno before firing tear gas into the home.
Authorities say he emerged from the home carrying a gun and fired one shot. Three officers from two different agencies returned fire.
Tiscareno was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries early today.
