(KAIR) -- Atchison City Commissioners Monday afternoon will consider a proposal to increase water and wastewater rates on for its citizens.
They will take up the matter at 4:30 at City Hall.
Assistant City Manager and Finance Director Becky Swain says the proposed increases are prompted by the mandates from the federal level and KDHE.

Swain says a proposed five percent increase for wastewater will be used to fund the three point one million dollar commitment to address the combined sewer overflow issue.
Commissioners will also look to approve appointments to various boards and commissions.
They will look to appoint James Bartlett to the Park Board, either Melissa Hartman or Harry Heflin to the Planning Commission and either Harry Heflin or John Bishop to the Library Board.
Commissioners will also look to improve payment of 141 thousand 345 dollars to KMIT for Worker’s Compensation, a substantial increase from previous years.
