(KAIR) -- Two fire departments already sharing facilities in Effingham are looking to consolidate in an effort get a new fire station.
Both the Effingham and Atchison County Rural Fire District Two are taking initial steps to consolidate and apply for a KDHE grant to build the new station.
City Clerk Pat Strine says the departments currently share the back segment of the Blue Building and Rural Fire District Two have already acquired property at the intersection of John and Main Streets to place the new fire station.
In other business at Wednesday’s City Council meeting, the city approved a letter to send to Rural Water District Five to hook-up a connection for water supply emergencies only.
Currently, Effingham water runs on a well system.
The council also approved Christmas bonuses for their employees, including 150 dollars for the City Clerk and Superintendent, 100 dollars for the Superintendent’s Assistant, and 50 dollars for the City Attorney.
The council also approved a request from ACCHS to use the Blue Building from April 8th through 14th for prom.
