Record Number of Powerball Tickets Sold In Ks
( KNZA )-The Kansas Lottery is urging all players to check their Powerball tickets from Wednesday night’s drawing.
Six tickets sold in Kansas for the record-breaking drawing are each worth $10,000 after matching four of the first five numbers, plus the Powerball. The winning numbers in the much-anticipated drawing were 5-16-22-23-29 Powerball 6.
Two of the six players with $10,000 tickets came forward today ( Thursday ) to claim their prizes. They included a Burlington couple and a Topeka resident. Three of the remaining tickets were sold in northeast Kansas and the other in south central Kansas
Kansans turned out in huge numbers to purchase their tickets in the hopes of hitting the record Powerball jackpot. The $587.5 million jackpot was captured by players in two states: Arizona and Missouri.
The final tally for Powerball tickets sold in Kansas for the Wednesday’s drawing was more than $5.4 million! That number easily surpassed the nearly $3.5 million tickets sold for the March 30th record Mega Millions drawing, in which a Franklin County resident claimed a third of a $656 million jackpot.
Including the six $10,000 winners, there were a total of 84,088 Kansas winners in Wednesday night’s drawing.
The Powerball jackpot for Saturday’s drawing is an estimated $40 million.
