(KNZA)--A new report says the Kansas unemployment rate continues to decline.
The state Labor Department reports that unemployment fell to 5.7 percent in October from 5.9 percent in September. Last month's figure is also down sharply from a seasonally adjusted 6.6 percent in October 2011.
Locally, Nemaha County had the lowest rate of unemployment at 3 percent, while Leavenworth County had the highest, standing at 6 point 2 percent. Brown County's unemployment rate checked in at 4 point 5 percent, Marshall County stood at 3 point 5 percent, Pottawatomie County recorded a rate of 4 percent, Jackson with 5 point 4 percent, Jefferson 4 point 9 and Atchison 6 point 1.
September's figure marked the first time since December 2008 that Kansas unemployment was below 6 percent.
