( KNZA )--A Jackson County Commission race is officially decided after the county commission met today ( Monday ) to canvass 62 provisional ballots cast during last Tuesday’s general election.
After the commission decided to count thirty-four of the provisional ballots, Democrat Bill Elmer defeated his Republican challenger Brad Hamilton by a 9 vote margin—813 to 804—to become the new 3rd District commissioner.
Provisional ballots are used to record votes when there are questions in regards to a given voter's eligibility.
Tuesday night’s unofficial results had Elmer defeating Hamilton by a two-vote margin.
Current 3rd District Commissioner Larry Fenske was defeated in the August Republican primary election.
