(KTNC) - As the holiday season approaches, Southeast Nebraska Community Action is looking for volunteers for its Head Start program. (play audio :20 “do that.”)
That’s SENCA Head Start program manager Crystal Dunekacke. She explains that the Head Start Program is responsible for raising 300-thousand dollars to match the federal funds spent at their centers each year. The donations demonstrate the support of the communities for the benefits the Head Start program provides.
Dunekacke says SENCA Head Start programs are in need of monetary donations, as well as supplies and volunteers’ time. That time can be in the form of coming in and reading to children, demonstrating a skill, or sharing an experience. (play audio :17 “the community.”)
And Dunekacke says Head Start could also make use of a variety of supplies. (play audio :15 “156 students.”)
The SENCA Head Start program serves 156 low-income and special needs children and their families in Nemaha, Otoe, Pawnee, and Richardson Counties
To find out more, to volunteer, or make a donation, contact one of the SENCA Head Start program centers in Auburn, Falls City, Table Rock, Humboldt, or Nebraska City.
