(KAIR) -- Several judges were retained, legislators re-elected and a constitutional amendment passed Tuesday night in Kansas.
In area Judicial Districts, Judges Gunnar Sundby, Martin Asher and Robert Bednar were retained by large margins.
In the Atchison County, Joe Oliver defeated Cathy Sweigart for Mount Pleasant Township Trustee 247 to 178.
In Kansas House, District 41, which serves a large portion of Leavenworth County, Incumbent Democrat Melanie Meier defeated Republican challenger Jana Goodman 55 percent to 45 percent.
The constitutional amendment to change the way watercrafts are taxed passed 54 to 46 percent.
Voters were asked to add the words "and watercraft" to the constitution where it addresses levying property taxes.
The measure was backed by the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism in hopes of encouraging more residents to purchase and register boats in the state.
While the amendment doesn't directly change the classification or tax rate for watercraft, it is the first step in a process to reclassify watercraft and make their tax treatment more in line with surrounding states.
The change would remove the classification of boats as "other" property, which is taxed at 30 percent of its value multiplied by the county's property tax levy.
