(KNZA)--Motorists can expect delays, starting Monday, as patching work is conducted on K-4 Highway from U.S. 24 to the Jefferson/Atchison County line.
Varying lane closures are expected during the project, expected to last through
Friday, November 9th.
The Kansas Department of Transportation says work will begin at the U.S. 24 interchange and move north. The work from U.S. 24 to Meriden is expected to take approximately two days, set for Monday and Tuesday.
Work will take place during daylight hours, from 7 in the morning to 7:30 in the evening, except for the section of K-4 from U.S. 24 to the north city limits of Meriden. Work in that area is planned between 8 in the morning and 3:30 in the afternoon.
Flaggers will direct traffic through the short-term lane closures, with drivers warned that because delays can be expected, alternate routes should be used if possible.
The work is part of the resurfacing project on a 27.3-mile stretch of K-4 starting at the U.S.24 junction in Shawnee County north to the Jefferson/Atchison County line.
Project work includes a surface recycle of existing pavement, followed by application of a 3/4-inch new asphalt layer over the existing mainline pavement, followed by all new pavement markings
Project work is scheduled to be completed on Friday, November 9.
Overall project work is scheduled to be completed in late November 2012, weather permitting.
