( KNZA )--The Iowa Tribe of Kansas and Nebraska has received a more than 92-thousand dollar grant from USDA Rural Development to create a long-term strategic plan for sustainable economic development on the reservation
Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack Thursday announced the selection of 112 recipients in 39 states for loans and grants to help spur economic development and create and save jobs.
In Kansas, two organizations received financing from USDA Rural Development—including the Iowa Tribe.
Iowa Tribal Chairman Timothy Rhodd said the Rural Business Opportunity Grant with assist the tribe and the surrounding community by developing a plan to help recruit businesses to the reservation that will provide jobs.
Rhodd said the tribe partnered with USDA in 2010 to bring broadband to the reservation and that project has helped lay the foundation for future economic development activity.
