(KTNC) - Pre-school through second grade students at Falls City North School now have access to new technology, thanks to a donation from a former Falls City High School class.
Students now have use of 15 new iPads, stored in a cart that allows them to be charged and synced simultaneously. District 56 Computer Technician Renee Kopf explains that the iPad is a form of technology – like a personal computer – onto which several applications can be downloaded to help in the educational process. The computers were purchased thanks to a donation the Falls City School District received from the Class of 1962. (play audio :29)
Teachers are able to check out the number of computers they need in a given day using a Google shared calendar. The iPads are then brought back and stored in the cart overnight. Kopf says the technology is popular with teachers and students alike. (play audio :20)
Kopf says there are thousands of applications that can be downloaded onto the iPads. At North School, age appropriate math and reading applications were downloaded to help students with the school improvement goals.
Kopf says Falls City Public Schools have a good technology plan in place, and she credits the School Board with providing funding to meet the technology goals.
