Brown Co. Sheriff Provides Info on No Call Registry
( KNZA )-- The Brown County Sheriffs office reminds residents that they can register their residential phones, including cell phone numbers--with the NATIONAL DO NOT CALL REGISTRY.
Sheriff John Merchant says once registered, solicitors will have 31 days to stop any call to your cell phone. The site is managed by the Federal Trade Commission
and if solicitors fail to abide by the no-call list, citizens can file a complaint with the FTC.
Merchant says the sheriff’s office has had complaints from county residents of callers contacting them and wanting them to provide personal information, and informing residents they will forward this information to the state and complete the no-call process for them. He says these people are scammers and in no way should information be given out..
Telephone solicitation calls to your home before 8 AM or after 9 PM are prohibited. Anyone making a telephone solicitation call to your home must provide his/her name, the name of the entity on whose behalf the call is being made and a telephone number and/or address at which you may contact that entity.
To register for the National Do Not Call Registry you can go on line to: www.donotcall.gov or you may call 1-888-382-1222.
If you are on the DO NOT CALL list and are being contacted you may call 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322)---you will need to provide your name and address, home number that is receiving the call, ID of who is calling you with phone number if possible, and description of the call.
