Falls City School Van Driver Avoids Possible Deadly Accident
10/15/2012

(KLZA) The Richardson County Sheriff’s Department responded to a one-vehicle accident Thursday, October 11th after 4 p-m involving a Falls City Public School van with one young student aboard.
Sheriff Randy Houser reported the driver, Laura Bartek was driving on 648 Avenue, a county road directly south of Highway 67.  Bartek came out of a cloud of heavy dust from another vehicle, which obscured her vision and realized she was approaching a railroad crossing and that  a train was coming.

Bartek realized she would not be able to stop in time.  When  Bartek applied the brakes the van pulled to the right and went into a ditch.  The van remained on all four wheels but stopped on a steep slope.
There was only one passenger in the van, a six year old who was secured in a child safety seat.  The student was transported to the hospital by his father for observation.  Sheriff Houser said there were no visible injuries from the accident.
No citations will be issued.
