(KAIR) -- A display across one of Atchison’s viaducts sparks controversy for the second consecutive year.
A string of bras, set to hang across the 6th Street viaduct, is for Pinktoberfest, which is an event to promote breast cancer awareness.
Differing sides clashed for at least 15 minutes at the start of Monday’s Atchison City Commission meeting during their first public forum.
Last year, a large amount of supporters of the display attended the meeting to argue in favor, however, this year, several individuals came out against the display.
One of which was Arthur Thompson, whose wife succumbed to cancer in 2007.
Thompson says he supports the cause of breast cancer awareness; he questions the morality of the display.

Hayleigh Diebolt spoke in favor of the display, saying the awareness of the display helped her team earn thousands for the cause and spread the word.

The Commission took no action on the matter during the meeting and Mayor Allen Reavis says if Commissioners feel like the vote to allow the display should be reconsidered, they will contact the City Manager on possible re-consideration of the vote in a future meeting.
