(KNZA)--A Topeka area educator is sentenced in Jackson County District Court for drug possession, according to Jackson County Prosecutor Shawna Miller.
Patricia Walters, a para-professional in USD 501, where she works with first and third graders, received the sentence Friday of 13 months with the Department of Corrections for possession of methamphetamine.
Due to Kansas sentencing rules, Walters' prison sentence was suspended and she was placed on 18-months of supervised probation.
Walters was arrested July 31st of this year during a routine traffic stop.
Authorities, believing she was under the influence of a stimulant drug, searched Walters' vehicle and found suspected drugs, including methamphetamine.
