Elderly Denison Couple Killed in Wreck
LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) - An elderly Denison couple is dead following a two-vehicle accident in rural Leavenworth County.
The Kansas City Star reports 84-year-old Bernard Payeur and 77-year-old Joanne Payeur died in the crash around 7:15 p.m. Saturday west of Leavenworth.
The Leavenworth County Sheriff's Office says Bernard Payeur was traveling west on Mount Olivet Road when he ran a stop sign and his car struck a northbound car on 207th Road driven by 39-year-old Rebecca Gildner of Easton.
The Sheriff's Office says the Payeurs didn't appear to be wearing seatbelts. Bernard Payeur was found dead at the scene, and his wife died shortly after rescuers arrived.
