(KAIR) -- In an effort to promote good city government, Mayor Allen Reavis invites all 7th grade students in Atchison to participate in the League of Kansas Municipalities essay contest, “If I Were Mayor”.
The contest educates community students about local government and gives them the opportunity to describe what they would do as mayor to make their city the best place to live.
Essays will be judged on creativity, clarity, sincerity of thought, understanding of city services, and proper use of grammar.
Six geographic regional winners around the state will receive $125 and the overall winner will receive $250.
The winners, along with their teachers, will be presented with plaques and formally recognized at a special ceremony in Topeka on February 6, 2013.
