Two area students are among the winners of the 2012 Kansas Book Festival Writing Contest.
Wetmore Academic Center student Sarah Gerber and Nemaha Valley High School student Jessica Hermesch were among the winners announced Wednesday by First Lady Mary Brownback.
The contest, which was announced at last year’s Kansas Book Festival, opened on January 1st and ended April 15th.
Entries were divided into three categories: 3rd-5th grades, 6th-8th grades and 9th-12th grades. There is a first and second place winner in each category per congressional district.
Gerber took 1st place and Hermesch took 2nd place in the 9th-12th grade category.
The winners will be recognized at the 2012 Kansas Book Festival Saturday in Topeka.
Each winner receives a cash award along with a Payless ShoeSource gift card
